LAYA GASA TREK - 13 DAYS | 12 NIGHTS
The Laya Gasa Trek takes you deep into Bhutan’s northern highlands, offering a rare glimpse into semi-nomadic communities with unique culture, traditions, and distinctive attire. As one of Bhutan’s most spectacular long-distance treks along the Tibetan border, it showcases pristine, untouched Himalayan landscapes.
Trekking an average of 14 km per day, sleeping at altitudes around 4,000 meters, and crossing four high passes above 4,500 meters, it is both a test of endurance and a journey through some of the finest alpine scenery in the region.
Starting from Gunitsawa, a scenic drive through the Paro Valley countryside leads to gentle initial days through lush forests, highland hamlets, and trails that cross the upper Pachu River multiple times. You reach the dramatic Jangothang Base Camp, dominated by the towering 7,315-meter Mount Jumolhari.
After acclimatization, the trek climbs higher into serene alpine meadows, stone cairns, and ridgelines offering sweeping views of Jumolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tserim Gang, eventually reaching Neyle La Pass at 4,870 meters. Descending to Lingzhi Village, you then cross high meadows, yak camps, and nomadic settlements, ultimately arriving at the remote village of Laya. A final two-hour descent marks the trek’s end, where travelers can continue to Punakha or add cultural sightseeing to their itinerary.
