JOMOLHARI LOOP TREK - 6 DAYS | 5 NIGHTS
The Jomolhari Trek is among Bhutan’s most spectacular and rewarding trekking adventures, taking travelers deep into the untouched beauty of the Himalayan wilderness. Combining thrilling mountain landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and peaceful alpine valleys, this trek offers a remarkable experience for those seeking both adventure and inspiration in nature.
Your journey begins with an acclimatization hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, dramatically perched on a cliff high above the Paro Valley. This sacred site not only offers breathtaking views but also prepares trekkers physically and spiritually for the adventure ahead.
The trek officially starts at Gunitsawa, about a 40-minute drive from Paro through scenic countryside, passing the historic ruins of Drukgyal Dzong. For the first three days, the trail gently follows the beautiful Paro Chhu valley, gradually ascending through forests of pine and rhododendron, yak pastures, and small traditional settlements until reaching Jangothang Base Camp.
From here, trekkers are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of Mount Jomolhari (7,315 m), one of Bhutan’s most sacred peaks. A rest day at the base camp allows for proper acclimatization, with opportunities to explore surrounding ridges or hike to nearby high-altitude lakes.
The adventure continues across high mountain passes, including Neyle La and Yaklayla, offering sweeping views of Himalayan giants before descending through valleys, forests, and riverside trails, finally ending near Barshong before the drive to Thimphu.
